পরিত্যক্ত বিমানবন্দর চালু । Reopen 7 Airports । Soniaexplore
Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority has taken the initiative to reopen 7 airports which are abandoned, unused and occupied in different districts of the country.
These are Ishwardi, Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat, Bogra, Shamsernagar, Comilla and Tejgaon airports. This initiative was taken to develop the domestic tourism sector of the country and increase passenger transport.
Necessary work has already started in this regard. Babychak's 2030 action plan and related sources have revealed this information. It is also learned that currently no aircraft are taking off and landing at any of these airports.
Some are owned by different organizations. Cattle roam freely on the runways of many airports. Some airports do not have any sort of security posts with boundary walls around them.
Locals play cricket on the runway. Grass and big trees have grown on some runways. And due to non-renovation and accumulation of water, the runway pieces and blocks have broken in some places.
According to the sources of Babychak, there are currently 28 airports in different districts of the country. They were made during the British government. All airports have runway lengths between 3,000 and 3,500 feet.
The runways are currently unsuitable for passenger aircraft operations. Babychock has a target to gradually increase the length of these runways from 6 thousand to 8 thousand feet.
Besides, there is a target of increasing the PCN of the runway from 30 to 60 feet. Then it will be possible to start flight operations with small passenger aircraft of ATR or DAS-8 Q400 model.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali said that the government has a comprehensive action plan for the modernization and development of domestic airports across the country.
Babychak Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman said that there has been great development in every district of the country. The standard of living of people has increased. In addition to industrial factories, the tourism sector has expanded widely across the country. One mega project after another, economic zones are happening.
Due to these reasons, the need for a new airport has arisen. All things considered, we are thinking of launching some more new airports on domestic routes.
Experts say two conditions need to be met for a commercially successful airport. Adequate passenger and necessary infrastructure for aircraft movement. The 6 airports targeted for operation have sufficient passenger demand. But due to the lack of the latter, 6 of the country's 11 regional airports are closed for commercial operations.
At present domestic flights are commercially operational at the airports of Cox's Bazar, Rajshahi, Jessore, Syedpur and Barisal. Private airlines - NovoAir, US Bangla, Air Astra, Vistera and national flag carrier Bangladesh Biman operate flights from Dhaka to these destinations.
Several other private airlines are currently preparing for flight operations. According to private airlines, domestic flights from Dhaka to five districts have been gradually increasing in the last few years.
Aviation expert Kazi Waheed ul Alam feels that the traffic pressure on the road is increasing every day. Due to this, if the closed domestic and regional airports are reopened, private airlines must operate flights. He said there are passengers and they are ready to pay for air travel. Our first task will be to bring the airfields back into business.
Representatives of civil society and business leaders think that the closed regional airports should be opened quickly to promote various sectors including economy, industry and medicine to the next level.
