| Video Discription | In the opening scene of Free State of Jones (2016), Confederates suffer heavy casualties as they advance toward Union lines during the Battle of Corinth in October 1862. Note the devastating effect of canister shot (1:04). Typically composed of tin cylinders packed with dozens of iron balls, canister shot transformed field artillery into massive shotguns. The allusion to photography (1:35) is also of interest.
