Most people begin with scripts that produce mild anxiety like accepting uncertainty and doubt in all areas of their life and then moving up into more challenging scripts that create much higher levels of anxiety by describing their worst fears happening. I encourage my clients to immerse themselves with listening to their scripts for as many hours of the day as possible. The more immersed you are in constant treatment and not avoiding your core fears, the more effective the treatment. Eventually, your core fears will no longer produce an anxiety response in your brain and your thoughts will no longer be as bothersome, obsessive or intrusive. ERP is possibly one of the most difficult things you will ever do, but, it is worth it to get your life back from OCD.
