For Lalgudi fans, their musical journey with the maestro began in the early 1950s. Many vividlyrecall the first time they heard him either live or on AIR . Fresh in thelistener’s memories is his first ever solo concert performed in the Krishna Gana Sabha in 1958. It established an entirely new bani; the Lalgudibani. With its breathtaking music making and total instrument mastery, the bani was a paradigm shift. Fans flocked to his performances whether they be his great solo performances, jugalbandis, Violin Venu Veena concerts, Lec Dems, vocal concerts or concerts with numerous vocalists. This channel is hosted by a group of his fans who have been diligently collecting and digitizing hundreds of his performances over the years. It is proposed to share with rasikas, over a period of time, all these concerts subject to Copyright laws. This is a concert from 1963 where the maestro is accompanied by SrimathiBrahmanadam with Umayalpuram Sivaraman on the mirdangam & TH Vinayakaram on the ghatam. This was one of the most popular combinations of the 60s and 70s and fans recall wondrous concerts in jam packed halls. We could not retrieve the entire concert and only 7 items are available. The concert begins with a Lalgudi special, Charukesi. The fecundity of Lalgudi’s music is never more evident than when playing this item. There are as many variations of Charukesi as there are concerts in which he has played them.
