| Video Discription | Sainte-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, September 5, 2013---BELUGA WHALE NECROPSY---Associate professor, Dr. Stephane Lair and students conduct a necropsy on a dead female, adult beluga whale at the Universite de Montreal 's Sainte-Hyacinthe Veterinary Medical Faculty. The whale was discovered along the banks of the St Lawrence River, east of Quebec City. Dr. Lair believes the white whale died of something acute; perhaps over a period of a week or two and was in very good shape at the time of death. Over the last 5-years, the mortality rate of juvenile beluga calves has skyrocketed, along with the death of females before birthing, during and after birthing.
